1st Announcement
The LBTO 2014 Users' Meeting, the first of a long series (we intend to have one every three years...), will take place in Tucson, AZ, starting on Saturday March 22, and ending on Tuesday, March 25, 2014.
The Users' Meeting will be entirely dedicated to LBTO and its users. For the observatory, this first users' meeting comes at a very important time: LBTO is preparing a development plan, LBT2020, which intends to bring the observatory to the forefront of astronomy by the end of the decade. For this plan to be successful, it must fit the expectations of those the observatory is serving: its users!
Therefore, the meeting will serve three main purposes:
- Give the LBTO users an opportunity to gather beyond the partners' borders and share their current and planned scientific projects through talks and posters, a great chance to build new multi-partners collaborations and to start building a real LBT community, something LBTO will need for its long-term future.
- Engage the users in the reflection on the development of the observatory: new observing modes, new services provided to users, upgrades of the currents instruments or capabilities, next generation instrumentation...
- Offer the LBT Partner Representatives a chance to interact with their users and to measure the level of interest the future of LBT generates all over the partnership.
The program will be set up to allow for a mix of
- formal presentations addressing, among other topics, the status of the observatory, current LBTO-based science results as well as ongoing and planned observing programs, and proposals answering the call for instrument upgrades and new instruments available at http://lbto2014um.weebly.com/2014_call.html.
- short presentations, followed by an open discussion, on the development of the observatory as proposed in the LBT2020 plan, and
- a set of parallel sessions where users will be able to gather by area of research, giving them an opportunity to meet beyond partner's boundaries and hopefully create new collaborations and joint observing programs.
Please mark the date! You will find practical information (meeting place, links to hotel reservation and registration) by visiting the Users' Meeting website here: http://lbto2014um.weebly.com/
